Discussion of the publication by Hāre Rēweti [Charles Davis] of a Maori language newspaper, Te Whetu o te Tau, for the Taupō and Waikato areas. Explains that this latest newspaper supersedes Te Waka o te Iwi also published by Davis.
Publication of a detailed account, `The journey of Davis, Waitere and their Pakeha', as published by Te Whetu o te Tau, Vol. 1, No. 1:2-4, describing their trip to Taupō aboard Ngāti Maniapoto's ship, Aotearoa, for the funeral of Ēnoka of Ngāti Pāoa and various meetings with communities.

Letter from Hēnare Wiremu Taratoa, of Ōtaki discussing the benefits of education and acquiring Pakeha practices as extolled by Wiremu Hapi Te Rāwhāritua.
Recounts his experiences after he was taken by his mother's brother to school at Pēwhairangi, his education at the mission school, the shift to Auckland by the Bishop with 28 students, and the opening of St John's College.
Explains his work as a baker and a monitor while at the college, and then his shift to teach at Ōtaki under the guidance of Archdeacon Hadfield, after the departure overseas of the bishop.
Discusses the Bishop's idea that education can ennoble people and the different avenues education opens up for the commoner.
