Reports the return of the Governor and several Maori chiefs from Taranaki where it is said that peace has been made. Assures readers of the good intentions of the Queen's soldiers, who were merely punishing and not attempting to destroy Maori as a people, but warns, in figurative language, that Maori would be outnumbered and defeated in future conflict.

Reports a week-long interdenominational conference of Churches in Auckland at which representatives listened to speakers and spent much time praying for the Holy Spirit to come to New Zealand and bring peace between Maori and Pakeha.
