pp.301-303 Te Wananga
Concerns a debate on the management of Maori lands in the Hawke's Bay province during which Mr Sheehan placed a resolution before the House describing the manner in which lands had been taken from Ngāti Kahungunu, stated that the dealings were scandalous and that certain members of Parliament were involved, thus bringing disrepute upon the House. Also referred to the dealings of the group known as `The Ring'. Contains two examples of land deals and further condemnation of `The Ring'.

Te Wananga states that the information contained in the article was incorrect. The Daily Southern Cross also contained an article about Pāora Apatu which had been forwarded to the Illustrated London News.
Article from the Dunedin Evening Star, comments on the problems stemming from the Government giving up its right to pre-emption in the purchase of Maori lands, which has caused many problems for Maori and resulted in the Middle Island [South Island] having to financially support the North Island.
Notice referring to a letter from Mr Grindell, Editor of Te Waka, to the New Zealand Times, concerning receipt of £50 from a Mr Tanner, described as a bribe so Grindell will not act against him in obtaining Karaitiana's signature in connection with the Heretaunga land block.
Discusses the speech by the Hon. H.R. Russell concerning the acquisition of Maori lands by the `Ring' in the Hawke's Bay area. States that the matter is being pursued in the High Court.

pp.305-306 The debate on the Hawke's Bay `Ring' land transactions
Te Wananga states that they will publish the entire debate in this and other subsequent issues. This first speech is by Sheehan, informing the House of his intention to have the matter fully debated in the House. Outlines the history of the case leading up to the present when the matter must be resolved, and states that the matter has been side-lined by Vogel's Abolition Bill, thus causing more delays and problems for Hawke's Bay Maori. Also states that the Commission of Enquiry reported its findings to the House in 1873, but as yet nothing further has been done.

pp.306-308 Wī Kātene and the Abolition question.
A speech in the House by Wī Kātene concerning the Abolition Bill before Parliament, during which he states that the provincial governments do nothing for Maori so he approves of their abolition. Disagrees that the faults with the Native Lands Act are to do with the central government because the responsibility lies with all members of the House, as they all voted for the Act. Draws attention to the fact that the Hon. Member for the Eastern Maori district said it would be well to do away with Maori representation in the House and thinks this a matter for the House to debate. Also states that he will not criticise the Superintendent of the Auckland province in his absence, because `Maori only approve of speaking to a man's face'.

Concerns Native Land Court judgements from Auckland, September 14, 1875
The first page lists the landowners that wish to have their lands surveyed, the lands in question, the boundaries and the place where people can view the survey maps.
The second page lists names of people who succeeded to lands, the names of the deceased owners and the lands concerned in the succession orders [Refer to Vol.2, No.2:282-285]. Below are the lands upon which Crown Grants have been issued. Lists the names of the applicants, the land block and the regions in which the land is situated.
Although the Court sitting was held in Auckland, the lands concerned are in the Wairoa area of Napier.
